Add Julian Edelman to the list of athletes who once had famously long beards and look like totally different people without them.
The Super Bowl LIII MVP showed up to The Ellen Show this week with the Lombardi Trophy and his beard still intact. He talked with Ellen DeGeneres about the Super Bowl victory, his family and what winning the MVP award means to them.
Then he let Ellen shave his famous beard off to raise money for the Boys & Girls Club of Boston. And like just about ever other athlete who sheds his facial hair – like Bryce Harper, Joe Thornton and Jimmie Johnson – he’s practically unrecognizable without what Ellen called a “bushy” beard.
However, it kind of sounded like Edelman was ready to ditch his beard because he told Ellen:
“Eating is a nightmare. I have to shower after I eat. But you know, sometimes you have something good (grabs his beard), flavor saver.”

But when she had the razor in hand and asked him for any last words before she started shaving it off, he said:
“I love you, beard. It’s been a hell of a year.”
Here’s a look at Edelman’s transformation in four parts. Although Ellen said the shaving process was taking a while, considering how long and scraggly Edelman’s beard was, it took almost no time at all.
Probably feeling a bit liberated, even Edelman admitted after: “I look like a different person.” And Ellen responded: “You’re very handsome under all that stuff.”
And then he sat there for a second with a large, gross ball of beard hair in his lap.
